BRT Lane: AriseTV Anchor, Rufai Oseni, Pays N70,000 Fine, Apologises

Rufai, who is critical of Lagos government was docked in the incident his followers described as government taking its pound of flesh but by others as government doing the right thing

 

Arise TV show anchor, Rufai Oseni, has paid N70,000 as fine for committing a traffic infraction in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital.

Platforms Africa reports that the Lagos police command spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, who said this, maintained that the broadcaster has received his car after paying the fine.

Rufai was arrested on Monday for driving on BRT lane in Lagos, a development that set tongues wagging after he alleged police operatives pointed guns at him.

Hundeyin, however, provided updates on the case on Tuesday.

“Mr Rufai Oseni was in court earlier today. He was found guilty of contravening Lagos State Transport Law (2018). He was subsequently fined Seventy Thousand Naira Only. He made the payment, after which his vehicle was released to him,” Hundeyin said.

Mr. Rufai, who is critical of Lagos government was docked in the incident his followers described as government taking its pound of flesh.  Others, however, said that the government, with the action, has done the right thing, which Rufai always clamour for on his program.

Meanwhile, the TV anchor has tendered an apology for his conduct.

In a video obtained by Platforms Africa, Rufai said that he was, based on the incident, in the news for a wrong reason.

“This has been a humbling experience for me.  I apologise,” he said.
